The PhD journey can be both inspiring and exhausting. Long hours, high expectations, and constant deadlines often drain your energy and make recovery difficult. This workshop introduces small, practical strategies to help you restore balance and build resilience during your doctoral research.
By integrating recovery practices into daily routines, you can create more sustainable energy for your research and yourself.
Content:
- Debug your fight–flight–freeze response to stress
- How small doses of mindfulness and compassion can support you in challenging research situations
- Practical strategies to develop a healthier stress response during your PhD
- Setting healthy boundaries
- Why negative experiences stick while positive ones slip away
- Understanding the role of negativity bias in academic life
- How to consciously cultivate and savor positive moments in your PhD journey
Trainer: Dr. Sybille Hüfner (https://sybille-huefner.de/)
Dr Sybille Hüfner holds a doctorate in science education and knows the challenges of the academic system from firsthand experience. The Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) programme became a key resource for her resilience during her doctoral studies. Today, she is a trained MSC teacher and supports people in academia in building resilience. Her workshops focus on self-reflection and personal experience, with theoretical inputs serving primarily as orientation.
