Abstract
This project explores how the Golgi apparatus influences calcium signalling in plants, a crucial mechanism for responding to environmental stresses such as salinity, drought, and heat. Building on discoveries in Arabidopsis thaliana, the project investigates the function of the Golgi-localised calcium transporter ECA3 and its homologs in barley (Hordeum vulgare) and turnip (Brassica rapa). Using advanced imaging, genome editing, and transcriptomic approaches, the team aims to uncover how calcium homeostasis shapes plant resilience. Ultimately, the findings will guide new strategies to enhance stress tolerance in crops through targeted manipulation of intracellular calcium dynamics.
